About Corfu
Corfu is one of the Ionian Islands of Greece. The Ionian Islands were named in honor of Ion, the nymph goddess of the sea. The capital of Corfu is, well, Corfu, but the Greeks call it Kerkyra. Corfu town is both cosmopolitan and historic. There is no shortage of museums, churches, and old fortresses.
While there is much to see and do in Corfu town, the island itself is worth exploring. Lush and green, mountainous and beachscaped, it is considered one of the most beautiful of all Greek islands.
The eastern shore, where Corfu town is located, faces towards Albania land the slopes gently to the sea here. The north and west coasts are more dramatic with steep rocky cliffs falling to the sea.
